In Memory of Lace Barry Feb. 10, 1942-April 13,2006 For each day that we walk through life, we never know when will be our last. Lace lived his life with no regrets. He worked from sun up to sun down every day caring for his cattle and living the life that he loved so dearly. He was a beloved father, cowboy poet, respected horseman, rancher and friend to all. His love for his horses and ranching was always present in all that he did. Lace has left such a hole in our lives, however his legacy and memories will live on in our hearts. This page is a dedication to his life and what he so truly believed in.
We Were Partners (Written by Lace Barry on Dec. 1st, 1978, the day John Barry, Jr. was buried at Antelope, TX and refers to a horse that Lace's dad owned which was sold to buy his tombstone) We were partners, you and I You bought me for four and called it high. We worked cattle on the JB and j cross. I tried hard as i could to be a top hoss. Whether draggin' a calf or cuttin' a cow, I did as good as i knew how. Now you're gone. i don't know why. they say you have a new place in the sky. i don't hear the feed bucket rattle. don't feel your weight in the saddle. your saddle is well-oiled-- rope on the horn, ready and coiled. I sold for enough to buy your stone. Least I could do, now you've gone. Leave the gate down. someday i'll drop by. we'll work cattle again--you and i-- on you new place in the sky.
Greatly missed but never forgotten
